It happened in
April, 2003, at a town meeting in St. George, Utah, hosted by Dixie
College. Senator Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, was the principal speaker. All
was going well. The senior Senator from Utah had the crowd eating out
of his hand when Bob Curran, co-director of Help The Child Brides,
asked Senator Hatch if he was aware that young girls 13 and 14 were
being forced into marriages with older men in nearby Hildale, Utah and
Colorado City, Arizona.

Nineteenth Century anti-Mormon writers, as well as Mormon writers, were
very good at creating amusing, colorful metaphors. Their satire was at its
best during fits of sarcasm - irresistible moments when they attempted to
insult or antagonize an adversary. J.
H. Beadle, an anti-Mormon writer was one of the more prolific and
auspicious. He made his humble debut in the Great Basin in October 1886
on the back of a mule. At
first Beadle was open-minded, even sympathetic with Mormon attempts to
coexist with non-Mormons. But
that changed abruptly when he saw how Brigham Young and his cronies
discriminated against the gentiles.

any doubts that Brian David Mitchell, abductor of Elizabeth
Smart, is another wretched product of the Mormon fundamentalist
subculture. Mitchell is the latest in a long line of deluded
fundamentalists that have resulted in exasperating humiliation for the
good people of the State of Utah.

has been appointed by
Salt Lake City's Mayor Rocky Anderson, to investigate how police handled
the Elizabeth Smart abduction case
Anderson said the five-member panel will
begin its work after the completion of the case against Brian Mitchell,
who is suspected in the kidnapping.
